The West Wing 2.5 (And Its Surely To Their Credit) "my president is your president"
a clip from "The West Wing", Season 2/Episode 5: And Its Surely To Their Credit. C.J. challenges the military.
"Go back to the Pentagon and tell General Berry that C.J. Craig says he's a coward."
This might be a bit sexist since its beside the point of the clip, but I have to say that C.J. was very sexy here. Smart, strong, tough, assertive, sexy. And I like her blouse.
I do not own the content in this video, but if I did, I would have no problem if anybody put it on RUclips.

“Kitten” has claws. Dude got mauled by “kitten”.
When I was in The Navy (mid 70's) and I wore my 3 medals, the new officers (with no medals) seemed "put off" seeing an E-2 with medals, and I could see their eyes continually going to my medals as we spoke.
Don't mess with CJ. You anger the kitten you get the claws.
Wearing a medal you didn’t earn is a death knell for ANY military officer/service member. That’s a line you *DO NOT* cross.
Indeed, ADM Michael Boorda killed himself in 1996 as a result of wearing 2 'V' devices on his service ribbons - distinctions for valor in combat that he had been verbally, but not officially, authorized to wear.
C.J at her very best!!!🎉
You never win a medal. You earn a medal and there is no such thing as a distinguished combat service medal. I did notice he wearing the combat infantry badge which does mean he had seen combat. Other than that cool clip.
Don't mess with CJ :) :)
CJ is a pitbull.
She gave both of them a chance to be civil but they declined - so CJ showed why the President gave her the press and the entrousted to be the most visible person in the administration. She just ate them up and spat out the bones
Imagine if real people could be as quick and articulate as CJ.
Words fail to describe Allison Janney's STRONG performance here. She's a testament to the art.
It's impossible to win against CJ, because she always does her homework.
Yay, government blackmailing public servants from revealing problems. We are the good guys!
"He never served in the armed forces, and he presumes to do military budgeting better than me?"
CJ's restraint was shown so well. She gives the General the proper respect due to his title while he calls her pejorative names. If someone that I had shown respect called me, "Kitten," I'd be MUCH less polite about his BS. She even says, " ...with all due respect..." and he responds, "SHOVE YOUR RESPECT, I DON'T WANT IT!!" My response would have been, "Well, alright, since you don't want my respect, let me give this to you straight up--no tact: what you pulled by going on that show was BS, you knew it was BS, and now I'm calling you out as a coward because you could have had a discussion with the President about this, but you were afraid the end wouldn't benefit you. So instead you decided to malign a man you didn't meet with on an issue you didn't bring up. Wow. You were so brave to sit that interview and just try to disappear!" She could have moved straight into, "Well, 'sir,' I rescind any attempt at respect as you clearly are not aware of what that means. Also, you're a fake, so if you open your mouth on record for anything other than what you ate for breakfast today, I'm sinking your entire career to the bottom of the Mariana trench. Mmmkay? Glad you agree."
People act like CJ isn’t a party flunky
How quick he drops the act and shows his actual respulsion for the president when facing the fact that he is screwed.
*Kittens are lionesses and tigresses too, (little) sir.*
This is when CJ became Chief of Staff.
“Go back the the Pentagon right now. Tell General Barry, ‘CJ Craig says he’s a coward.’” In a frame where she as a woman, though being one of the most influential people in the White House, is seen as being inferior. How much would that have stung?
When CJ took out her bazooka and blasted him over his fraudulent medal, I felt great.
"DON'T INTERRUPT ME LADY!!"
That checkmate when CJ saw on this heavily decorated General a single ribbon he didn’t earn.
The knockoff from "A Few Good Men", complete with the Nicholson impersonation, is shameless.
GET DOWN. NOW STFU. Little bitch won’t be on no TV show that’s for sure. GET DOWN.
Another ridiculous scene. Go look up videos of Generals/Admirals being questioned by congressional committees or being screamed at by protesters and look at how they react...They don't, they're some of the most even-tempered and detached individuals out there. The notion that a General at the Pentagon is going to barge into the White House press secretary's office and start snarling like he's some drill Sergeant is hilariously stupid.
What a condescending dick.
This is perhaps C.J.s mose epic verbal takedown ever. How the actress got through all that dialouge I'll never know...
ohio republiscum candidate was just revealed to have lied about his military service.... that alone should disqualify him from office but hopefully ohio will do the right thing and not vote for the buffoon
This scene flies under the radar a bit. Calling out DoD and Congress on over spending for the military.
1:08 don’t you fucking look at CJ in that tone of voice
She earns her paycheck in 3 minutes.
The larger point here is the General is upset at civilian oversight, specifically the President. There's a dangerous opinion among some in the military that feel civilians should have no say in military operations and that elected officials have no right to interfere in their world. The problem is they glibly argue this point not realizing it's de facto military dictatorship. Civilian oversight is not only necessary, it's paramount to preserving Democracy and the military is anything but.
Brilliant scene. One flaw. A G.I. doesn’t “win” anything. He/she earns it.
Ha! I love it. Angry general had a quiet moment of realization - he realizes this isn't going how he planned. He tries to appeal to her emotions. Soft music starts playing. A redemption seems inevitable. **screeching record sound** "Is there anything else, sir?"
I really wish CJ had made more out of him saying 'your president' . that felt like a good potential sorkin speech moment. love how respectful she stays throughout
Shove your respect USA. I EARNED ALL MY MEDALS. CARE NOT A JOT WHO GOES DOWN ON THE GOOD OLD BOYS! Donald Moffat played C J Cregg's ailing pater and Matthew Mordine played the field. Vision quest full of metal jack offs no joker (Rep Mo Brooks) and cutthroat islanders. Batman and Police chiefs. Hotel New Hants. Transporter a victim.
why does she need to speak with a military tone though xD
Another example of hypocrisy; ask Senator Blumenthal how much grief he gets for his stolen valor. Accountability only works one way in Washington, and this show gets almost everything wrong vs reality.
Is there anything else sir?
Tv show the don't know that much ! RC
The capricious sleep phenomenologically impress because wax proportionally concentrate excluding a bawdy connection. second-hand, busy line
Kitten heels are designed for kicking people who call you kitten.
So how does that usually go over with the boys? Man you could have heard a pin hit the CARPET!
Allison Janney is a beast!
This isn't shown in this clip but Bartlett later talks to CJ and says that he's fine with a general taking swipes at him because the general has earned his stripes over a long military career and the president can handle it. I think he was wrong, for all the rigas ends that CJ just mentioned, but there you have it. It is indeed truly to his credit.
Ive never understood why Americans feel they need a massive army. The British ruled a third of the world with a navy and a furled umbrella.
Call me KITTEN. Ha!
Abraham Lincoln had a with a General named McCullen. It seems that years before becoming President Lincoln worked for McCullen. After that he could never get it through his head that Lincoln was the commander in chief and not a subordinate. Any General who forgets his place should be court marshalled.
Generic United States and generic South Africa. Maybe lost in translation but cluck cluck cluck! You had decided guilt. Uppity at least. Child care fostering reasonably full employment after exams passed. Little criminality and my dress sense I would claim got better. No wine women nor songs.okay some wine. A tad of larceny. And 16 years to allow white fascism full reign. Yes. Makes cowards of us all. Cluck cluck cluck!
